How to Alter Knit Sleeves
Learn how to adjust and change up the design and length of sleeves on any knit top.
In this Lecture/Demo class, Rachel will show you how to take a standard sleeve pattern, and change it up to suit your exact style! Rachel will show you how to use pattern ease to create the custom lengths, details, pleating, or draping that you’ve been wanting.
This class will go through sleeve lengthening/shortening, adding pleats to create a “puff” sleeve, and demonstrate how to create a pattern for a “wrapped” cap sleeve. You don’t have to make the same shirt over and over again! See how making these small adjustments (that you can do on your own!) changes the overall look of a top, and gives variety to your favorite clothing patterns!
This is a lecture/demo class, but we will be doing some hands on activities, so make sure that you bring:
-
Writing utensils
-
A ruler or straight edge
-
Scissors (paper, not fabric scissors, as we won’t actually be cutting fabric!)
-
One yard of Pattern Ease

Instructor: | Rachel Burke |
Instructor Bio: | Rachel has been sewing since the age of seven. She began by stitching skirts and Halloween costumes with her mother, and quickly branched out into fiber arts of all kinds: cross stitching, weaving, beadwork, and bag construction. It wasn't until the Pandemic that Rachel discovered quilting, and quickly fell in love with the medium! She has now designed over 100 quilts, and has gained some national recognition after she won second place at the National Quilt Museum's New Quilts from an Old Favorite contest in 2022. Her style is modern and geometric, and shows off a true love of color! |
