Class Q: Beginning Quilting
Eight 2-hour classes
This class will introduce you to quilting by machine. You will learn quilting by machine, fabric tips and cutting tricks, rotary cutting, block assembly, borders and binding, and successfully finishing your first quilt.
You will make a baby- or lap-size quilt. All fabrics must be purchased from this store.
You receive a 20% discount for all class supplies.
Supplies: A list will be given to you during the first class, along with the student handbook.
Before the first class:
1. The sewing machine; you must be comfortable with your sewing machine to take this class. You also must have a 1/4" foot for your machine before the second class. If you don't already have one, we will help you determine which foot will fit your machine if you bring in the shank from your machine along with the make and model number.
2. If your machine hasn't been serviced in a while and is making clunking or other abnormal noises, or the tension is funky, take it in for service before you start. A well-maintained machine will make piecing so much easier. Not sure how to use your machine? Take the Sewing Demystified Class or arrange for a private lesson.
3. If you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with Rotary cutting, please take our Rotary Cutting 101 class. At the Begininng Quilting class, we will review and practice those cutting skills.
What to bring to the first class:
1. Bring any rulers and rotary cutters you own to the first class. Do not go and buy any before class. You can test out ours before deciding which you would like to purchase.
2. A loose-leaf notebook and 30-page protectors.
3. Notebook paper and pencil.
4. Your machine make and model number and the 1/4" foot. But you do not need to bring the machine to the first class.
