Garment Pattern Fitting Workshop

Getting the fit just right is one the the best investments you can make for your garment sewing. When trying to fit your clothes, it is so hard to see what the back looks like or to know what those wrinkles really mean - and you need someone to help figure things out. This is a very unique class that no one else offers because at the University of Sewing we believe in well fitting clothes!

Pick one pattern or 2 patterns, make a mock up for each, bring it to class and Margaret and Alice will help you get the fit just right. Once the pattern adjustments are made, you can start cutting out and constructing your garment for final fittings if you want or work on another mock up.
Supply list :
tracing paper, rotary cutter or scissors, pencil, notebook, safety pins, seam ripper, Frixion markers in multiple colors, extra fabric or muslin (or we have it in stock), pins, a sewing machine for sewing an altered or new mockup.
Whatever supplies you need to start construction of your garment if you want to work on it.
Note we are offering open sewing through out the month.
If you have never used our measuring paper click on this link.

Additional notes from Margaret:

You are welcome to bring up to 3 mockups.  Your mockups can be pants, tops, or jackets.
You will need to bring your entire pattern - instructions and pattern pieces.  If you have altered the pattern in some ways please bring that version of the pattern.  I will make corrections directly on your pattern so we need whatever you used to make your mockup.
You should construct a mockup of the pattern out of a similar materials to what you are making the garment out of.  For example knit garments should be made of knit materials not woven.  If you are making something that is supposed to be drapey use a light weight cotton or rayon, rayon is better.
The most important thing about your mockup is that it should be too big rather than too small.  What we mean by this is that the garment needs to completely fit around you.
For example if you waist is your largest measurement on the pattern is that size.  I will be altering your pattern and if the mock up is too small we won't be able to fit you properly.  I have been altering patterns and fitting people for over 30 years so I promise that this works.
If I had to guess I probably use a combination of several fitting techniques.  Different techniques work better for various body types.  Balance lines are very helpful and would be appreciated.
If you want to make another mockup after the 1st fitting and alterations are done you can bring a lightweight machine and more muslin but I will have several classroom machines available and we sell muslin although we don't have any inexpensive knits.
Does this make sense?  I hope so but call me if not.
