There is quilt inspiration all around us. The first picture is of the floors at the Buskirk Chumley Theatre in downtown Bloomington.
Our latest addition to instructors is Rachel Burke. Rachel has designed this quilt just for our class.
Rachel says:The Buskirk Chumley Theatre, right here in downtown Bloomington, just celebrated its 100th anniversary. What better way to pay tribute to this gorgeous piece of local history than with a quilted wall hanging inspired by its Art Deco style? "BCT" is a simple, visually striking wall hanging based on the Buskirk-Chumley's 100-year-old tile in the front lobby. Filled with pleasing neutrals and shot throughout with bold jewel tones, this fast, charm pack friendly quilt truly tells a piece of Bloomington's history. Class and kits available at University of Sewing at the Tailored Fit. I hope to see you there!
You will make the wallhanging version in class, but you can make this bigger on your own.
The key is the fabric selection and we help with that by supplying all the fabrics. Each kit will slightly different so everyone has there own version of the BCT wallhanging.

Instructor Bio: | Rachel Burke first picked up a needle and thread at the age of seven. Many of her happiest childhood memories are of Rachel sitting next to her mother, cross stitching while watching black and white movies, dreaming of one day designing and wearing the costumes she saw on the screen. Rachel's love for fiber arts was immediate and set. She sewed her prom dress and wove a shawl to wear with it. She stitched the clutch she carried to her wedding, and designed her first child's nursery around the colors her mother sewed into a baby quilt. It wasn't until the Pandemic, however, that Rachel began sewing and designing quilts herself. Her first project was a king sized quilt for her own bed, and she hasn't stopped making them since. In 2022, her work Come, You Spirits, was awarded second place at the National Quilt Museum's "New Quilts from an Old Favorite" bi-annual contest. Rachel brings that first love of cross stitching and geometry into her unique and bright designs. |
